The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
